Its specific purpose is to acquaint you with the policies by which this class will be conducted, what you can expect of it, and, in turn, what is expected of you. Please keep it in a convenient place so you may refer to it whenever the occasion requires.

Course Description

The heart of a worshipper overflows with expressions of praise and steadfast trust in everyday circumstances. Learning to worship in Spirit and in truth is dependent upon our relationship with the Holy Spirit and the truth of His word, which shapes our heart and mind to respond to Jesus as the Word instructs. This eight-week course invites us to explore the nature of God, the lifestyle of worship, the requirements for authentic, Biblically-aligned worship, and the outcomes of worship. Upon conclusion of this course, participants will consistently engage in higher quality worship experiences in prayer, artful expression, song, dance, written expression, programming, and leadership opportunities inside and outside of the church.

Course Learning Outcomes

Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:

Define worship according to the scriptures.
Examine the status condition of our hearts as we prepare to worship in Spirit and in truth.
Explore the intimate nature of true worship.
Analyze and apply the biblical requirements for worship.
Appraise the responsibility of the worshipper.
Correlate the worship experience with that of power and authority.
Articulate the significance of intentionality in the worship experience.
Illustrate the prophetic nature of our worship experience.
Design a unique worship experience that incorporates many of the principles that are taught throughout the course.

Methods of Instruction

This course incorporates didactic instruction (e.g., lectures via written, audio, & video), group learning (e.g., small group discussions, group projects), and experiential learning (end-of-semester project).

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

Assignment Descriptions

Attendance, Participation, and Professionalism

Students are expected to come to each class meeting. Missing a class means you will miss important content and experiences. If there is an emergency or you will be late, please contact the instructor as soon as possible. During each class, we will engage in some activity that will be required to submit before leaving class. These assignments will be challenging to make up outside of class, so if the absence is excused, the student can make up the assignment in office hours.

End-of-Semester Project Planner

Beginning Week 02, at the end of each class, we will spend time reflecting on how we can use what we have learned to construct our final project. We will use our Project Planner to support this effort.

End-of-Semester Project: “Heart of Worship” Project Presentations *Instructions*: You will create a unique product that demonstrates the transformative power of worship! You may utilize any method you choose! This can include, but is not limited to:
*A Song of Worship*	Write and minister a song of worship.	The project must be rooted in the principles that we have learned throughout this course. The song should have: A unique title 2 verses A chorus (hook) A bridge A clear structure The song should last approximately 5 minutes.
*Artwork of Worship*	Create a unique artwork that represents some element of worship.	The project must be rooted in the principles that we have learned throughout this course. Provide a description of the artwork that includes the materials used and the justification for their use, an explanation of the process of creation, a recap of any struggles that had to be overcome along the way, and an interpretation of all symbolism and figurative language to give the audience insight to how worship inspired this work of art.
*5-Day Devotional*	Create a 5-day devotional on some aspect of worship.	The project must be rooted in the principles that we have learned throughout this course. The devotional, as a whole, should have a unique title. The devotional, as a whole, should have a clear structure and purpose. Each day of the devotional should have the following elements: A unique theme for that day. The participant should be able to complete the devotional in 10-15 minutes. Be rooted in scripture. A description of that day’s focus (a small narrative/story to engage the reader) Include a structured, scripturally-aligned prayer to reinforce what the devotional aimed to teach. At least one question to have the participant reflect on what they’ve learned during the time of devotion.
*Worship Conference*	Plan a 2-hour worship conference that champions the cause of true worship and conserves the biblically-aligned worship experience.	The project must be rooted in the principles that we have learned throughout this course. The conference, as a whole, should have a unique title/theme. The conference, as a whole, should have a clear structure and purpose. The conference should have a driving scripture that influences the theme/title of the conference. The conference plan should include what topics will be taught, music, breaks, number of participants, location, and other pertinent details that could be implemented successfully.
*Worship Musical*	Plan a 2-hour musical that centers on ushering people into the presence of God by honoring God in true worship.	The project must be rooted in the principles that we have learned throughout this course. The musical, as a whole, should have a unique title/theme. The musical, as a whole, should have a clear structure and purpose. The musical should have a driving scripture that influences the theme/title of the conference. The musical plan should include what topics will be taught, music, breaks, number of participants, location, and other pertinent details that could be implemented successfully.
*Personal Testimony*	Author a personal testimony that illustrates how you have grown as a worshiper.	The project must be rooted in the principles that we have learned throughout this course. The testimony should have a unique title/theme. The testimony should have a clear structure. The testimony should cover, at minimum, three major time frames in your life where your worship transformed. Please discuss the evolution within your worship with detail.
*Choreographed Dance*	Choreograph a unique dance that represents some element of worship.	The project must be rooted in the principles that we have learned throughout this course. Provide the lyrics of the song selected as well as a justification of the song choice. Provide a description of the choreographed dance that includes the movements used and the justification for their use, an explanation of the process of creation, a recap of any struggles that had to be overcome along the way, and an interpretation of all symbolism to give the audience insight to how worship inspired this choreographed dance.

Stay on topic. Don’t post irrelevant links, comments, thoughts or pictures.

Don’t badmouth others or call them stupid. You may disagree with their ideas but don’t mock the person.
If you refer to something your classmate said earlier in the discussion, quote just a few key lines from their post so that others won’t have to go back and figure out which post you’re referring to.
Before asking a question, check the class FAQs or search the Internet to see if the answer is obvious or easy to find.
Check the most recent comments before you reply to an older comment.
Be forgiving. If your classmate makes a mistake, don’t badger him or her for it. Just let it go.
Run a spelling and grammar check before posting anything to the discussion board.

Electronics in Class

Students are expected to access this course online. While participating in synchronous activities (e.g., small group discussions, lectures, etc.), students are expected to be fully engaged. Students should not access anything online during class time that is not related to class.
